Full Spectrum CBD Vs CBD Isolate: What’s the difference?
CBD Oil (Cannabidoil) has become increasingly popular in recent times. A completely legal product derived from the Hemp plant that has the ability to not only support wellness and promote wellbeing, but also fully maintain many of our bodily systems and their functions. Between it’s legal status as a food supplement and it’s lack of psychoactive effects, it’s become quite a popular health product to use and produce. This, in part, is what encouraged us to create Liquid Gold Elixirs, to offer a high-quality and well researched CBD product at an affordable price. When we started, we had to make a decision whether to opt for isolate oils or full spectrum. We thought you’d like to know why we chose to stock full spectrum oils only.
Firstly, let’s explain what CBD Isolate is. Isolate is an extraction of the cannabinoid CBD from the plant material. Essentially, it’s singling out the CBD and avoiding any other cannabinoid that may be present. While this may seem a brilliant way to avoid the (in)famous THC (the cannabinoid known for creating the ‘high’ when cannabis is smoked), in fact, the hemp that the oil is made from contains little to no THC anyway. The down-side is that all other, lesser-known but still helpful, cannabinoids such as CBN, CBDV, CBC, CBG and so on. This is partly why we chose to stick with a more natural and traditional outlook in full spectrum oil.
With full spectrum, we make sure that all of the goodness of the original plant makes it into the oil. The ‘full spectrum’, if you will, of cannabinoids that occur naturally in the hemp plant. On top of this, the oil will contain plant terpenes which have been shown to have many positive properties and other health benefits of their own. Full spectrum even contains a small amount of ‘THC’ but it’s a low enough amount that it’s legal in the UK and has no psychoactive effect. The down side is that full spectrum oil does cost more to produce. Next, we had to see if the extra cost was worth it, it definatly was! There have been multiple studies into the ways that these cannabinoids work together and most, if not all, agree on a theory known as ‘The Entourage Effect’.
The Entourage Effect is essentially that each cannabinoid is balanced by the others around it to help with negative side-effects. Scientists separated CBD and performed a test to measure some of it’s beneficial properties. One thing that they found is that with purified CBD, it’s effectiveness is seen most at a medium level dose. When opting for a large, or small dose, it was noticeably less effective. This meant the next step would be to have to assess the variable factors to pinpoint a perfect dose. This was found to be extremely difficult and narrow.
These scientists then repeated this test with a full spectrum oil, containing the full range of cannabinoids from the plant. This ‘entourage’ of cannabinoids essentially removed this problem. It became a clear pattern, the higher the dose, the more effective it is. This means we see lower doses being taken and a much easier ability to measure effectiveness and requirement.
It took a lot of studying and little to no deliberation. Once we’d all learnt the differences, positives and negatives of each method, the decision was easy. Liquid Gold Elixirs’ priority is, and has always been, the highest possible quality oils. To us, this means full spectrum oils only. This means ensuring that our oils are as pure and as true to nature as possible. We’re confident in our decision and we’re even more confident that you’ll agree with us after trying our products.
